Les Damnés de la mer
Trasfoco: Fishing
Along the coast of Western Africa, from Morocco to Senegal, from Western Sahara to Mauritania, thousands of fishermen find themselves in a desperate situation. The authorities of their countries do not allow them to go out fishing, with the pretext of respecting international quotas. But those very same fishermen are astonished to see huge international trawlers extracting vast quantities of fish every day. Corruption, national interest, multilateral agreements? Unable to understand this state of affairs, they talk about their families, customs, lack of money and the government’s repression of their protests. Among all those fishermen a woman begs to be allowed to go the sea to be able to feed and take care of her children. To no avail, precisely because she is a woman.
